     Business Card Design Tips # 1 – Use of Colors
     Your business card can be a spot defining factor of your nature. So, you need to make sure that the right side of you is exposed in the card. Mostly, use of color is suggested in the card. This makes it look lively and not boring. However, try to avoid creating a rainbow on your business card. Do not use more than 4 colors on your business card (other than the logo, if any). The choice of color can depend on the gender and purpose. Like a woman can experiment with mauves and lavender and men can try their hand at maroons and browns. In case, you are using the card to show an analytical side, use solid colors like blue, green, gray and red. In case the card is to expose your creative or talent side, you could use fluid colors like purple, mauve, pink and turquoise. Either ways, the colors should effectively compliment your personality.

     Just like colors, your fonts need to compliment your personality and purpose. Try not to use more than 2 fonts in your business card. The size of the fonts can vary, as long as legibility is maintained. Depending on your gender, you can select any font. Like, men can stick to a bolder set of fonts. They put an impression of persuasion on the reader. Women, on the other hand can opt for any font. The delicate fonts will make the reader take keen interest in what the person has to say and a bolder font will impress the reader enough to create intrigue. I know, it sounds like a double standard, it sort of is, but it can’t be helped. Whichever font you select, it has to be in compatibility with the nature of its purpose and has to be easily legible. Not that a reader will never try too hard to read a business card.

     Business Card Design Tips # 3 – Use of the Logo
Most business cards make use of the signature logo of the individual using it. However a very grave mistake that many people make, is that they make use of the logo several times. Note that the logo cannot be used on a business card more than once. It should be used once and should be the most easily legible item on the card. Do not try having the logo in small size, scattered all over the card. A watermark of the logo can often trivialize the meaning. So avoid doing that. Make sure that the logo is in color and high definition. Business cards are often brand ambassadors, use them well to that end.

     Business Card Design Tips # 4 – Contact Details
     A very common mistake made by many, is in the field of contact details. Note that only the required contact information needs to be kept on the business card. Like, if you are a freelancer and are mostly in contact via telephone and e-mail, there is no requirement for you to put down your residential address on the card. However, if you need a lot of correspondence couriered to you or have people coming to meet you often, then the requisite address should be given. In case you are never available on your home number, do not put it down on your card. You will be wasting the reader’s time, if he tries that number. If you use the card for a variety of purposes, you can give your name and phone number only, any more details can be taken from you over the phone, right?

     Business Card Design Tips # 5 – Size
     As per popular appeal, yes, size does matter. Often, people try to experiment with business card sizes. While that is a very creative approach, it is often suggested against. This is because, if the card does not fit in the reader’s card holder, they might lose it. This can be a loss for them, but an even bigger loss for you. In case you are an artist, you can afford to experiment a little bit with the shape of the card, as long as it is the right size to fit into a card holder. However, if you are from an analytical or fixed natured profession, a contemporary sized and shaped card is the safest bet. Although, a slight curve of the edge is permissible to all, a lawyer or management consultant should avoid designing a non-rectangular card. Yes, it seems rigid, but so is the mindset of the people. So, if you don’t need to be, don’t be too creative and experimental with your business card.
