I am interested in Television and Film Advertising and Marketing. I am also interested in Film Production and all other aspects of Marketing. I even have a great idea on how to improve Telemarketing for the Marketers and the customers…. any advice is great.

For the most part, ad agencies are not going out of business. They are, however, rapidly changing with new technology and going away from the traditional points of reaching their markets. With recent advances in rotating electronic billboards, media-based cell phones (or on-the-go processors i.e. netbooks/ iPads), social networking sites, and several advances that will be made in the near future, advertising budgets are actually growing to meet the current demands in “new media” over the last couple of years (despite the recession) and will grow even more soon, but they are cutting back heavily on allocated expenditures on traditional TV commercial advertising, stand-alone magazine ads, and the “old” way of creating market awareness.

The biggest advice you can have right now is: follow the current technology trends because that is what is paving the way in advertising, production, and consumerism right now, more so than I have ever seen. There has been a huge spike in social media and computer integration with everything- from digital cameras, post workflows, broadcast, to how we will view this media and be reached at home or “out of home”. It will be surprising for many people how quickly things will change in the next couple of years.

What type of advertising or promotional element does Facebook use?

Buy and Sell text links

What type of advertising or promotional element does Facebook use when its application comes automatically installed on your phone? Or other companies say “Find us on Facebook”. We are doing a marketing research paper, and we cannot find what unpaid advertising is considered, what is that called? Does Facebook receive payments from Blackberry or Apple for installing the application, or do they pay for the phones to come with them?

Best reply by ✖ Anirudh ✖™:

1) A company never installs Facebook on your phone. The owner needs to install it on his own.
2) Facebook provides you with a a code of “Find us on facebook” a like box and all other stuffs.

No mobile handset company pays money to facebook . Its free service.

What’s the difference between majoring in Advertising and majoring in Advertising Design?

What’s the difference between majoring in Advertising and majoring in Advertising Design? At Syracuse University they are two different majors. Advertising is in the school of public communications, while advertising design is part of the college of arts and sciences…??

Best reply by Bill K:

nothing; you can’t get a job with either after 4 years of college!

Honestly, it sounds to me like one has to do more with persuading people through written/spoken/visual advertisements (PR, commercial dialogue, plugs in TV shows, radio) while the other is more of a pleasing design of a printed or visual ad (like a billboard or in a mag).

How does advertising work for the recording and movie industry?

Buy and Sell text links

Technically, the recording and movie industry do not generate their income through advertising, so how does advertising work for them?

Best reply by unraveling_with_every_word:

In a way they do generate their income that way. By advertising, there are usually two benefactors: the product being advertised and the sponsor of the advertisement.

The sponsor is given credit for the advertisement in hopes that people will buy THEIR product, and often they do.
The recording or movie industry is putting their product out there, so it is likely to be bought by consumers as well.

Without advertisements, a product would never be seen and therefore never purchased by consumers.

What is a typical advertising budget for companies shown as a percentage of sales?

what do companies spend on advertising? What is the percentage of sales that a consumer electronics company spends on advertising? How are advertising budgets decided?

Best reply by bittersweet:

Every company is different. I’ve noticed that the companies I have worked for spend approx 20% revenue on marketing and advertising. So if you make 1 Million in Revenue they’d spend about $200,000 on marketing/advertising. but it all depends on profitability. if most of your revenue is going back into your overhead you’ll have to spend less.
